OUR ROLE

Thyroid disease as an endocrine disorder remains to be a very foreign concept in Kenya and Africa as a whole. This aspect seems to have escaped the radar of mainstream medical health care systems in many African countries, and this has led to a lot of misdiagnosis , mis advice, mistreatment, and loss of life. In the recent past , we have lost many patients to thyroid disease as a result of misdiagnosis, mis advice and mis treatment.

As a leading authority in thyroid health, we fill this gap by supporting, promoting, and working with other stakeholders and duty-bearers to advance knowledge and translate discoveries about thyroid disorders and their complications into practical solutions that make everyday life better for people living with are at risk of thyroid disease. The Thyroid Disease Awareness Kenya Foundation (TDAK) is a non-profit patient organization founded in 2017 and legally registered in Kenya under the Societies Act Cap (108), and Registration Certificate No. R49933. Our Mission

Thyroid Disease Awareness Kenya Foundation is dedicated to improving thyroid care in Kenya and focuses its efforts on creating awareness, promoting research, advocacy and supporting the general wellness of people with thyroid disorders in order to improve their quality of life. Our mission is to create awareness about thyroid disease, how to manage it, as well as creating a community where patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and researchers come together to conquer the complexities of Thyroid Diseases, and Endocrine Disorders. We work with healthcare professionals, hospitals, labs, and other key stakeholders to provide the right information and treatment options that are available in Kenya and the region.

Through our community support groups on WhatsApp, Facebook, and our contact line, we offer support and advice based on a patient’s experience. Through the peer to peer network approach, new patients are also able to get a shoulder to lean on, and advice from other patients going through or have gone through the same experience.
